RUTSIRO- Two health insurance (mutuelle de santé) officials in Rutsiro District have been detained for allegedly stealing funds collected from local residents.

The duo, Beata Byiringiro an accountant and Jean Marie Vianney Uwanyirijuru a mobiliser  is said to have embezzled over Rwf8million.

It is said that Uwanyirijuru used his position as mobiliser to solicit funds from residents and later connived with Byiringiro to use collected funds  for personal gain.

"A recent audit report indicates that over Rwf8million is missing and investigations are underway to establish its disappearance,” Fidel Bimenyimana, the district official in charge of good governance said yesterday.

He revealed that the anomaly was uncovered after monitoring the central bank account where health insurance funds all over the district are deposited.

Erick Mushimiyimana, a resident in Mushubati Sector expressed grievances and dissatisfaction over leaders who do not effectively deliver on assigned tasks.
