The East and Central Africa Volleyball Confederation (ECAVCO) has received a major boost from Kenya, the region’s volleyball powerhouse.

In a recent announcement, the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) president Waithaka Kioni said that they will support the regional body in any way they can. 

The body’s executive committee comprises of Tom Omongole (president), Tanzania’s Augustino Agapa (Vice President), Kenya’s Jacob Owiti as Secretary General, Kenneth Tonui as Treasurer and Kenya’s Walter Otieno as the Sports Organizing Secretary and Kioni believes that the Kenyans on the executive committee have the experience required to market and develop the sport.

"The Kenyans on the executive have the experience required to market and develop the sport in this region with the support of their counterparts from Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Zanzibar and Burundi amongst others hence I am appealing to them to hit the ground running so that East and Central Africa can match their North and West African opponents,” Kioni was quoted on the CAVB (Confederation of African Volleyball) website.

Over the years, Kenya has been a shinning example of the region’s volleyball success not only in East and Central Africa but on the whole of the African continent after repeatedly being the region flag bearers in the two world events; the World Championships and the World Cup.

The ECAVCO which is headed by Uganda’s Tom Omongole as President is made up of six nations namely; Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and Zanzibar.
