Rwanda Cricket Association has drafted a Frw 5.7m budget for the national cricket team ahead of the ICC World Cup Qualifiers / ICC World Cricket League slated for April 13-18 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Participation fees and the team’s preparations eat up the lion’s share of the budget.
Other expenses include transport and the team’s kit.

Rwanda has made two appearances in the world cricket league; in 2004 and 2006 where on both occasions, the team was rocked with a financial quagmire.

"We want it to be different this time. In the past, the team’s preparations have been greatly hampered by financial constraints which in the long run affect the performance negatively. It also brings down the players’ morale,” the RCA president Charles Haba said.

In South Africa, Rwanda will lock horns with the likes of Sierra Leone, Ghana, Gambia, Morocco, Swaziland, Lesotho and Malawi in the one-week affiliate’s tournament.
At the end, the winner will gain associate status.

In 2004, Botswana became an associate member of the ICC (International Cricket Council) while in 2006; Mozambique joined the same ranks after dislodging Sierra Leone in the final.

Rwanda will have every reason to wrestle for the top prize because associate countries are entitled to ICC grants which foster quick cricket development.
