Rwanda is becoming a hub of youth conferences in the region. So many young leaders are coming to Rwanda to learn new experiences about Rwanda and the youth mainstreaming policy! Teen Times is happy to hang out with Erasmo Nyika from Tanzania.

What brought you to Rwanda?
I came to for the East African Community Youth Organization (EACYO) meeting. We wanted to join Rwandans to commemorate the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

What is your impression about Rwanda?
Rwanda is a country on the rise. The country has gone through hard time but today, the country is a new country within African. It’s different from other African countries.

Anything unique about Rwanda?
The spirit of the people! Letting go is never a simple thing! It takes more than a human heart for someone to forgive! I was moved when I learnt that people live together in communities and help each other! I am so proud of Rwanda!

What are your happy memories in Rwanda?
The visit to the President’s Office was special. President Paul Kagame is a good leader. I immediately told my friends that I had found a new role model. I was moved by the passion he had for his country. I liked the way he gives chance to young people to participate in national building! This is a concept that many leaders in Africa do not have!

What are your worst memories?
The visit to the Southern Province town of Murambi at the Genocide memorial site which was so moving! I could not believe how people could do such things to innocent people because of the way they were created. I felt so bad that even young babies who could not say a single word were also killed!

Final comments?
I want to say that Rwanda is the new dream of Africa. If such a mindset is adopted in the entire continent, then things will be different! Let more people come and visit including those from my country Tanzania and then they will realize that the world is changing.
