NYAGATARE— A modern market worth over Rwf800 million is set to be constructed in Nyagatare District this year, an official has announced.

The district vice Mayor in charge of finance and economic development, Stanley Muganwa, said that the new market is part of developmental projects designed under the district’s 2011-2012 budget.

The construction works will start in July this year.
If completed, according to officials in Nyagatare district, the new market will boost cross-border trade with the neighboring Uganda.

"We have already acquired half the required money to construct the market. We are generating more money to meet the exact budget,” said Muganwa.
Residents have been complaining of lack of a modern market to facilitate business in the area.

"We have been wondering why the district was not constructing a market like in other districts. But this is good news because business will grow faster,” one businessman in Nyagatare said.

According to Muganwa, the district will mobilise stakeholders to raise more funds for immediate completion of the market.
