Iradukunda crowned Rubavu Triathlon champion

Rwandan athlete Eric Iradukunda (19) was on Saturday, February 18, clinched the Rubavu Triathlon National Championship 2023 held in Rubavu District over the weekend.

Rwandan athlete Eric Iradukunda was on Saturday, February 18, clinched the Rubavu Triathlon National Championship 2023 held in Rubavu District over the weekend.

Organized by Rwanda Triathlon Federation, the one-day tournament was attended by 18 male players in two categories namely men elites and juniors categories.

The athletes started with a swim session that covered a distance of 750 meters followed by a 20-kilometer bike ride and finished with a 5-kilometer run.

Iradukunda won the men's elite race where he used 1hour and 9 minutes, followed by Claude Dusabe who used 1h10’50’’ while Hertier Ishimwe completed the top three podium after using 1h,13’9’’. All the three athletes play for CS de Karongi team.

Munyaneza of Rubavu SC team claimed the U19 race using 1h20’17’’. Christian Byiriringo, who plays for the Karongi SC team, finished second clocking 1h,22’19’’ while Rubavu SC’s David Byamungu finished third using 1h31’22’’.

Triathlon is an endurance multisport race consisting of swimming, cycling and running over various distances. Triathletes compete for fastest overall completion time, racing each segment sequentially with the time transitioning between the disciplines.
