When you are taking a tour around the city, especially during evenings, you will always come face to face with beggars who tell you stories that make you dig deep into your. This is word on the street on whether the begging habit should be tolerated.

"It’s not fair at all because people never think of something they can do for survival but rather think about tricks they can use while begging for money.”

Julius Kamali, Kimironko resident.

"Unless you are out of your senses, you will support the idea of a begging culture. Some mothers don’t think of what they can do to support their children but to come along with them on the street as a card to be given money.”

Alas Naddy Rumanyika, A local musician.

"Rwanda is known for good things like cleanliness around the city, but these beggers make the city unclean. Therefore people who are surviving on begging yet they even look healthy should be punished.”

Wilson Misago, Marketing manager of Inyarwanda.com.

"Since it’s a problem and it’s increasing in number, the government should look for some remedies of stopping it. Some people are making begging a business that does not require any capital other than talking and convincing people whom you think are well-off.”

Olivier Ruzigana, Link Media Pro Manager.
