Prime Minister Edouard Ngirente on Friday, February 3, condoled with the grief-stricken families whose members passed on in a tragic accident in Rusororo sector, Gasabo district.

At around noon, a maize drying shelter collapsed in Rusororo, killing 11 people while more than 30 were critically injured, according to Rwanda National Police (RNP.)

Those injured, however, are being attended to by emergency health personnel and evacuated to medical facilities according to a communique released by the Office of the Prime Minister.

"The government will provide appropriate support to the bereaved families and the injured,” the communique read in part.

Measures to ensure the safety of built structures will be reinforced to avoid similar incidents in the future, it added.

Details of the accident were not shared by time of publication.
