RDF briefs defense attaches on Mozambique, CAR operations

Defence Attachés accredited to Rwanda were on Thursday, February 2, hosted for a security briefing at Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) Headquarters in Kimihurura where they were told of Rwanda’s internal and external security situation, updates on RDF bilateral engagements in Mozambique and the Central African Republic (CAR) and RDF participation in peacekeeping operations.

In line with the celebration of National Heroes Day, the Defence Attachés were also taken on a tour of the Liberation Trail.

Every year on February 1, Rwanda pays tribute to its national heroes who demonstrated the highest values of patriotism and sacrifice for the well-being of the country and its citizens.

The briefing was organized by the RDF-International Military Cooperation Department and involved 29 Defence Attachés and Associates representing several countries including Algeria, Belgium, Botswana, Canada, Czech Republic as well as Egypt.

Also represented were the European Union, France, Germany, Italy, ICRC, Japan, The Republic of Korea, The Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Sweden, Tanzania, Turkiye, Uganda, United Kingdom, USA and Zimbabwe.

"It is a rare opportunity to exchange views on security challenges, this time combined with a unique experience of touring Rwanda&039;s Liberation Trail,” Col GS Didier Calmant from Belgium, who is also the President of Defence Attachés Association, said.

RDF organizes Defence Attachés Security Briefings periodically to provide the opportunity to resident and non-resident DAs to meet and exchange views on current security dynamics at national, regional and international level with a view to enhance cooperation between Defense and security forces.
