KARONGI – A man from Rwankuba Sector is currently under custody at Bwishyura Police Station in Karongi District, after he was arrested distributing fake currency in exchange for local brew, known locally as Urwagwa.
Twenty-eight-year old Bosco Muberankiko was nabbed following a tip off from suspicious residents, after he willingly offered to buy alcohol for whoever wanted to drink.
"We became increasingly concerned about his ‘generosity’ because he is not usually such a kind of person,” a resident who preferred anonymity told The Sunday Times yesterday.
Upon arrest, Muberankiko who was rounded off while still in possession of fake notes amounting to Rwf180, 000 confessed to committing the crime and revealed
that he had got the money from a friend in Kigali.
"I initially had Rwf200, 000 which I obtained from a friend of mine called Bikorimana, a trader in Kigali. He had asked me to distribute it for him among ignorant residents,” Muberankiko said.
According to police records, this is the least committed crime with no cases ingreported over long periods of time.
