BURERA  —  A child aged one and half years who was reportedly defiled by her maternal uncle on Monday, died three hours after arriving in Ruhengeri Hospital on Tuesday, medical officials said.

The incident reportedly occurred on Monday at 5:pm and the child was first admitted at Ntaruka health centre before she was transferred to Ruhengeri Hospital where she died at 3:pm.

The 18- month Nyiramahirwe was reportedly defiled by her maternal uncle Ntegerezyimana, 20 from their home in Ntaruka Cell in Kinoni Sector.

The child, who has been living with her mother Mukantabana, and her grand mother Ndamiyibuhatsi Doecel, had been left home with the uncle.

The suspect, [Ntengerezimana] who is being held at Gahunga police post denied committing the crime claiming he was impotent to commit such a crime. On arrest he appeared visibly abnormal.

Shocked residents condemned the act accusing her mother of negligence while others suspected that some thing artificial could have been used to harm the sexual organs of the child.

The incident comes barely a week, after residents witnessed another bizarre incident in which Nsabimana Gasindana, 24, was killed in cold blood by his wife Nagasuja Leah, 44, reportedly after a domestic wrangle.

According to a medical report, Dr. John Karake of Ruhengeri hospital noted that the child died due to excessive internal and external bleeding from the ruptured internal organs and open vessels that led to anaemia.

He said the level of rupture of the child’s sexual organ and perineum, lower parts of the small and large intestines was beyond recover.

"The rapture was much, death was inevitable,” he said.
