Mining firm to construct health center

KARONGI - The construction of a much needed health centre in a village in Rwankuba Sector, Karongi district has kicked off. The € 50,000 facility will be funded by Bay View Group, a US investment firm that carries out mining in the area, in partnership Kigali Health Institute (KHI).

KARONGI - The construction of a much needed health centre in a village in Rwankuba Sector, Karongi district has kicked off.

The € 50,000 facility will be funded by Bay View Group, a US investment firm that carries out mining in the area, in partnership Kigali Health Institute (KHI).

Speaking shortly after the ground breaking ceremony, on Tuesday, Eugene Seminega, the KHI official in charge of legal affairs in the office of the rector, said that the partnership was the beginning of many other developmental projects in the region that Bay View was embarking on which targets the local community.

"Our institution not only cares about the promotion of education for Rwandan children, but  we also care about the health status of the local community,” Seminega told an assembly of visibly excited residents.

Seminega, who spoke on behalf of the Eugene Kazige, the Vice Rector in charge of Administration and Finance reaffirmed KHI’s full commitment in ensuring that the health status of the local community improves to a reasonable level.

Bay View Group president, Dr Roderick Marshal called for more cooperation with the local community which was important in improving their livelihood.

"I must say that we are very keen in boosting the livelihoods of the community. To that end we are looking at the future establishment of a fully equipped technical school as well as assisting with set up of a milk processing plant,” Marshal said.
