Emmanuel Ruterana’s form ahead of this year’s Sunshine Tour will be assessed today when he takes part in the MTN monthly mug tournament at Uganda’s Kitante Golf Course.

The 26-year-old who left Kigali yesterday morning by road will contend with Uganda’s cream of Deo Akope, Godfrey Mande, Dennis Anguyo, Amos Kamya, Herman Mutaawe, Gickson Lagoro Atibu, among others.

According to the Ugandan professionals’ captain Akope, the lucrative monthly mug will be played in four circuits and on a quarterly basis.

At the end of every quarter, Frw1 million will be shared amongst the top six competitors.
"After every quarter, the top six golfers will share Shs 3 million while in December; the overall winner will walk away with a grand cash prize of Shs 3 million,” Akope told Times Sport yesterday by telephone from Kampala.

Before his departure, Ruterana said, "This tournament is timely because it will help me assess myself ahead of the sunshine tour.”

The former caddie, who departs for South Africa in the first week of February, has been lined up for two subsidiary events in the Sunshine Tour.

The Sunshine Tour is South Africa’s top men’s professional golf tour and is also one of six leading men’s tours which make up the International Federation of PGA Tours.

The South African Open, the Dunhill Championship, and the Joburg Open are the most prestigious events on this (Sunshine) tour.

Uganda’s Akope and Godfrey Mande have also been lined up on the tour.
