The Rwanda Book Development Initiative (RWABODI) started the initiative of developing a reading culture among primary schools. RWABODI’s mission is to support the development of the book industry in Rwanda through private initiatives and creation of an enabling environment for all stakeholders to develop and promote writing as well as reading culture.

According to Stephen Mugisha, Director of RWABODI, the pupils still don’t understand why they should read when they are not told to do so by their teachers or parents.
"Reading should be embraced by everyone most especially children because literature is informative and educative and a tool of developing what we already know,” Mugisha said
RWABODI donated various books and dictionaries worth one million francs to ten schools
The UNICEF country representative James Ofuombi graced the ceremony and reminded the children of the importance of reading.
RWABODI is a non-government and non-profit organization made up of professionals who are involved in the promotion of literacy and reading culture and was established in 2008.
