Title hopefuls Rayon Sports returned to the Rwanda Premier League action in blistering form as Tuesday’s comfortable 4-1 win over Musanze FC at Muhanga Stadium saw them climb to second on the table.

Isaac Mitima, Eric Ngendahimana and Moussa Esenu were on target for the home team to secure the first victory in the last four matches as the visitors scored the consolation goal through Peter Agblevor.

It was a sweet win for club head coach Francis Haringingo whose side returned to winning ways after finishing the first round of the league struggling for results.

The tactician has been under intense pressure after the club tasked him to win three consecutive matches to save his job.

He reconciled with the fans who attended the encounter in Muhanga in big numbers despite missing nine players through injuries.

Mitima gave Rayon Sports the lead after just 13 minutes before Peter Agbelovor responded four minutes later to equalize for Musanze. The teams went into the break level 1-1.

Rayon put pressure on Musanze FC from the beginning of the second half looking for the second goal which they got on the 52nd through Nsengiyumva’s own goal as he tried to clear Ganijuru’s powerful cross.

Four minutes later, Felix Ndekwe and Musa Esenu combined well as the latter fired in a powerful header but the ball hit the goal post only to meet Ngendahimana who tapped it into the back of the net.

Esenu, who was dangerous in front of the goal during the game, scored the fourth goal in the 70th minute to pile more misery on the club which obviously ran out of defensive solutions to the Uganda attacker’s threat.

The victory saw Rayon leapfrog archrivals APR and Kiyovu to move second on the table, on goal difference, as the three teams are tied on 31 points. They trail table leaders AS Kigali who are two points clear at the top.
