Rachel’s Ramblings : Do you earn more than him?

I’m almost certain that Adam was the one assigned to the not-so-easy task of looking after the family.  What I’m not sure of is whether women were forbidden to be more successful than their partners. If someone can show me where that is written I’ll be mighty grateful.

I’m almost certain that Adam was the one assigned to the not-so-easy task of looking after the family.  What I’m not sure of is whether women were forbidden to be more successful than their partners. If someone can show me where that is written I’ll be mighty grateful.

You see, a long time ago it was stylish and quite normal for women to stay home and just take care of the house and the kids, growing fat in the process. As the years and mankind started to evolve, so did the era of men calling the shots!

Men tend to act like it’s a federal crime for a woman to earn more than her male partner yet they always complain about gold diggers! A little ironic, if you ask me. No ‘real’ man enjoys the fact that his girlfriend or wife earns more than he does.

So she’s the CEO of some big-time company and you are the assistant to the assistant’s supervisor to God knows what! Big deal, at least be grateful she’s bringing in something and not lying around waiting for every coin spinning off your salary to go for a manicure.

Men claim to want independent women but what they really want are the ones that are not too independent—women who will not intimidate them or crush their precious ego! Even the poorest of the poor at one time would like his wife to ask him for something, even though it’s a flower that he will most certainly pluck from his neighbour’s garden.

He will be happy for you, without a doubt, but when things aren’t going so sweetly for him, it becomes another issue. He starts complaining about your workaholic ways even though you can swear you work only seven hours a day, which is reasonable.

If you are really unlucky, he’ll assume you are having an affair and that the promotion you got was simply because of your boss’ lustful eye. As a wife, you know you have to share all the details of your life with your husband and that’s sweet but when things go haywire, don’t you just wish you hadn’t?

Sometimes it’s just better to leave some things unsaid, especially when you sense it might cause unnecessary battles. Even when they earn just slightly below you it bothers them. It becomes more of a competition than a partnership.

However schooled some men are, in this day and age you’ll be shocked that there’s a high possibility most of them still think women are better off in the kitchen or taking care of the kids.

You’d think by now men were used to fact that woman is the new man! Sentence me to the guillotine if you want but it’s true. Men just have a hard time coming to terms with that. I can’t say I blame them really.

So, if you don’t mind your man feeling as though he has been insulted by your success, do your thing girl! How can you apologize for being successful? If he can’t handle the heat, let him get out of the kitchen!

But if a part of you says he’s the one but he’s earning ways are not as up-to-date as yours and you are sure he won’t like one bit of it, keep it to yourself or just look for another ‘one’ who is more than willing to spend it for you! You can spend it without him assuming some guy at work gave it to you. Or better still, just look for one whose class matches yours.
