MUSANZE - Ruhengeri Hospital has received an assortment of clinical and laboratory equipment along with ten computers worth Rwf5million donated by the Rwanda Commercial Bank (BCR).

The items originally belonged to the BCR Clinic which was closed down after the bank management decided to adopt universal health insurance scheme for its staff, which meant that the bank’s staff was now free to access medical services from any hospital.

"The donation is part of the bank’s corporate social responsibility”, said Judith Muhongerwa, who represented the Bank’s Managing Director at the hand over ceremony yesterday.

Some of the clinical equipment included laboratory machines such as a sterilizer, water bath, microscope, a stretcher and other related pharmaceutical equipment. The donation also included office furniture.

Muhongerwa added the decision to support Ruhengeri Hospital was reached after a needs assessment was undertaken countrywide by various BCR branch managers on the situation of hospitals within their localities.

She said the equipment were still in good working conditions and up to date. The contribution is part of the initiative to promote good health in the country, she said.

Dr. John Karake, the hospital’s director, commended the contribution which he said would help to speed up service delivery to patients and help doctors "fulfil their duty of promoting good health in the community.”

He said that some of the medical equipment will be handed over to health centres attached to the hospital. Present at the function was the Musanze district vice Mayor, in charge of Social Affairs, Pascal Butunge, and hospital staff.
