It was not until the aftermath of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi that filming in Rwanda become popular.  The power of film has become a milestone in the healing of the nation.

 Through screening various short films on the situation on ground, Rwanda Cinema Centre has trained a considerable number of local film directors camera crews, filmmakers as well as actors and actresses.

Celebrating film through the annually organised Rwanda Film Festival, has registered a drastic improvement in filming.
Hillywood, an initiative of the Rwanda Cinema Centre is a popular programme that has created a platform for rural Rwandan’s across the countryside to experience the power of film. One unique aspect is the inflatable screens on which short movies that attract thousands of crowds are screened.
