MUHANGA - Nyamabuye sector, Muhanga district, will focus on rural and urban development among its top priorities in the 2010-11 performance contracts.

The sector executive secretary, Jean Baptiste Mugunga, made the revelation during the presentation of the sector performance contracts, at Muhanga cultural centre on Monday.

Mugunga said, "In order to achieve this target, the sector needs to involve residents and the contribution of the private sector…”

The sector will renovate and construct modern structures, beautify the town and increase hygiene in all settlements in order to improve town standards.

Other priorities highlighted include; increase in agriculture and livestock production, soil erosion control, promotion of saving and credit schemes, and conservation activities.

Key development partners at the meeting, raised concerns over the increasing number of street children and idle residents in the area, who have in most cases posed security threats.

They also talked of the need to increase access to free HIV voluntary counselling and testing in trading centres. The role of residents should be visible during the implementation of the sector development programmes, partners said.
