MUSANZE - A total of 48 couples who have been cohabiting for years in Busogo sector, Musanze district, on Monday, exchanged marriage vows at a mass wedding.
Presiding over the function, JMV Nduwayezu , the Sector’s Executive Secretary, encouraged the couples to remain faithful to each other.

"This opens a new chapter in your marriages… promote equality and sharing of ideas and responsibilities intended to bind the family ties,’’ Nduwayezu said.

He urged residents to promote mutual understanding, adding that domestic violence is a result of lack of commitment between couples.

Jacques Mfitundinda, one of the newly wed couples, said he was inspired by other happily married couples and promised to promote equality and unity. "We realised that cohabiting is unacceptable,” he said.

Meanwhile, authorities said over 20 couples who had been on the list pulled out on the last minute, citing financial constraints.
