Cash-strapped SC Kiyovu players have declined to report to training for the past 48 hours until their two-month overdue wages are cleared.

Players have not received their salaries for the months of November and December and are hence bemused at the situation. They accuse the club management of lack of communication on what is being done to sort the arrears and decide to take action.

This is the second time in as many months that the financially-stricken club has failed to source wages, a challenge that, if not sorted, could affect their quest for their first league title in 30 years.

The situation comes when the Green Baggies prepare to face Gasogi United in a league game slated for January 20.

The club’s woes could get from bad to worse after the players threatened that they won't play the upcoming match against Gasogi unless their salary arrears for the last three months are paid.

The players have reportedly written to the club management expressing their concerns over unpaid arrears but they have not received any feedback yet.

"We are not receiving our salaries which is something that has been happening since October last year,” one of the top players told Times Sport.

Players have told the management that they will not return to the training until they receive the two months’ salaries.

"After failure to put into action several promises of paying our salaries for the last two months, we have decided to call off our training sessions and even the remaining two matches to the end of the season,” he added

The club is said to have requested players to resume training after promising them that they will get paid on Monday, December 9.

Kiyovu resumed training sessions on Sunday, January 8, at Muhanga Stadium but it remains unclear whether the players will stick to their decision and refuse not to turn up for the session.

SC Kiyovu sit second on the league table with 30 points and are only goals shy of table leaders AS Kigali.
