HUYE - The National Commission for the fight against Genocide (CNLG) plans to establish  a memorandum of understanding with the Institute of Scientific and Technological Research, IRST, aimed at strengthening its efforts to fight against genocide.

Dr. Jean Pierre Dusingizemungu, a commissioner at CNLG, revealed this last Friday during the commemoration of former IRST employees who were killed in the genocide.

IRST lost 18 employees in the 1994 genocide against Tutsi.
Dr. Dusingizemungu hailed IRST for carrying out research on genocide and contributing towards the unity and reconciliation process in the country.

"IRST researchers contributed ideas to the establishment of Gacaca jurisdictions. The institution also contributes to the restoration of Rwandan culture,” he said.

Dusingizemungu, added the commission will establish a Centre of Research and documentation of Genocide in collaboration with IRST.

The centre will open doors to various researchers in the field of genocide studies and will gather all documents written about genocide especially the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.

Dr. Jean Baptiste Nduwayezu, the I.R.S.T Director General, said the research carried out by his institute so far has revealed the truth about the 1994 genocide.

"We have already published a book on the Murambi Memorial Site. More research on the genocide is being carried out whose findings would be published soon,” said Dr. Nduwayezu, adding that the research conducted by I.R.S.T is not limited to Rwanda.

"In collaboration with the Linköping University of Sweden, we published research about the 1994 genocide against Tutsi last month and we plan to publish that research in the International Scientific journal.”
