NGOMA - Local district authorities have revealed that they have finalised plans to construct what they describe as a tourist class hotel in Cyasemakamba, a few metres from Ngoma town centre.

The construction of the over Rwf 1 billion hotel, has been cleared by officials from the Common Development Fund (CDF), the District Executive Secretary, Gerald Muzungu revealed on Wednesday.

The bulk of the funding is expected to come from CDF. 
"We presented the project to CDF for appraisal as our financers, and they approved it. Consequently we are now finalising plans to embark on the construction,” he said. 

"The project will tackle challenges arising out of lack of hospitality outlets both in our district and neighbouring areas. That we entirely rely on old Catholic Church infrastructure for accommodation and recreation is lamentable.” 

Augustin Tuyisenge, officer in charge of infrastructure said the district has already hired a contractor.
Authorities added that certain aspects of the design of the hotel borrows heavily from traditional Rwandan culture. 

"The hotel project is timely...as we are lacking a suitable facility for conducting seminars or conferences. It is a great achievement in the making, since the hotel will above all widen the districts’ revenue base,” Tuyisenge added. 

Thadeo Munanura, a famous businessman in the district commended the district’s effort to construct the hotel. He said that many of his business associates fail to get accommodation whenever they travel to Ngoma district. 

"We virtually don’t have any hotel worth talking about for business people. We cannot develop this town when we cannot accommodate tourists and other visitors. With the new hotel, we now expect tourists to and from Akagera National Park bringing money to our local businesses,” he said. 

According to officials, the district has so far earmarked Rwf 300 million towards the construction phase and CDF will foot the remaining costs.
