Public servants urged on transparency

KARONGI – Heads of public institutions have been called upon to ensure transparency while accounting for government resources. The call was made yesterday at the closure of a 3-day accountability workshop for head teachers and accounting officers of schools under the 9-year basic education program in Karongi district.

KARONGI – Heads of public institutions have been called upon to ensure transparency while accounting for government resources.

The call was made yesterday at the closure of a 3-day accountability workshop for head teachers and accounting officers of schools under the 9-year basic education program in Karongi district.

Deo Bitegetsimana, the District Director of Finance and Administration, explained that the training was aimed at helping participants reduce mistakes in their financial management work.

"Such training has been offered to financial directors and accountants in other government organs such as hospitals and health centres. It is a way of improving  on financial reporting,” he said.

Gervais Mukiza, the Director of Rubengera Teacher Training College in Karongi district, challenged the head teachers to always observe procurement rules to avoid landing in trouble.

Azarius Nzamutuma, the head teacher of Groupe Scholaire Musango in Twumba sector said the training would help them minimize errors in financial management.
