RUSIZI – Rusizi Youth Centre this week awarded several youth who participated in a cultural themed competition. The competition held under the theme ‘Equal rights and equal opportunities and development for all’ were part of youth training sessions centred on gender based violence, income generating activities and sexual reproductive health.

The competition held under the theme ‘Equal rights and equal opportunities and development for all’ were part of youth training sessions centred on gender based violence, income generating activities and sexual reproductive health.
The competition featured all secondary and primary schools in Kamembe sector. Three best participants in each of the four categories, poems, songs, skits and athletics, were awarded.
In poetry the winner walked away with Rwf25,000, the second got 20,000 while the third bagged 10,000.
In the second category of short skits, UPEK Primary School walked away with Rwf50,000 while Gihundwe Secondary School won Rwf40,000 in the second position.
Club Ubwuzuzanye, a drama club emerged third and took home Rwf30,000. In music, Etienne Nsengiyumva, a S.4 student at Gihundwe Secondary School walked away with Rwf50,000 after thrilling his audience with his own hip-hop Kinya-rwanda composition. UPEK Primary School was awarded Rwf40,000 in second position.
"All youth should join this Youth Centre in order to benefit from the different training programmes and activities that the centre offers,” said Marie Alice Batamuliza, an official in charge of social affairs at Kamembe Sector.
Jean de Dieu Sibomana, the co-coordinator of the Youth Centre called upon youth to sensitise residents on equal rights and reproductive health.
