The classrooms worth Rwf11m, meant to support the 9-year Basic Education, were commissioned by the Mufti Sheikh Saleh Habimana.
"Without good government, we wouldn’t have achieved this. It’s amazing how the Muslim community has developed during the past 16 years,” said the Mufti.
Habimana advised Muslims to embrace all government development programmes to fight poverty.
Adam Nyange, the head of the Muslim community in Nyamasheke and Rusizi districts, commended the government for unifying Rwandans, noting that before 1994 Muslims were discriminated against.
The Governor of the Western Province, Celestin Kabahizi expressed his gratitude to the Muslim community, for their efforts to develop Kamembe town.
"Building schools is great, what’s remaining is your contribution towards roads construction, so that Kamembe town can get a better look,” said Kabahizi. The Muslims also laid a foundation stone for the new mosque that they plan to construct.
