RUBAVU – An International Non Governmental organisation, Action Aid has donated 8 bales of clothes and 300 blankets to residents who were affected by recent floods in Rubavu and Musanze districts. The support is valued at about Rwf5m.

Action Aid-Rwanda boss, Joséphine Uwamariya said that the support was delivered after an assessment of the effects of the disasters.

"We have brought this support basing on the numbers delivered by rapid assessment team of the government and civil society,” she said. "However, it seems that the number has increased compared to the initial figures.”

Christopher Kalisa, the Rubavu district Executive Secretary thanked the donors for their support and appealed to other charity organisations to follow suit.

He said food and shelter remains a challenge to affected families.

"This support cannot be underestimated, it solves their immediate needs as we think of resettlement plans for them,” Kalisa said.

According to Action Aid country representative, the organisation will also provide support to train disaster management committees at the district level in the country.
