MUHANGA – The National Electoral Commission (NEC) has called on students in the Southern Province, to exercise their democratic rights by participating in the forthcoming presidential elections.

Jean de Dieu Rutatika, the provincial electoral commissioner, made the call while closing zone II inter-schools sporting competitions which were organised to raise awareness on the upcoming elections.

Rutatika said, "The competition is aimed at raising awareness on election updates among the youth and to mobilise  the community to understand the value of elections.”

"The youth  have also been  prepared for elections and this calls for awareness on all electoral requirements so as to have a free, fair and peaceful election.”

He also revealed that the best teams will meet other zone entrants  at the national level in July and the finalists will be rewarded for their outstanding messages on elections.
G.S St. Joseph Kabgayi dominated most of the sporting activities in the men’s and women’s categories.

However, College St. Emmanuel de Hanika and Gitwe Adventist College scooped the football titles, while E.S Bulinga took the rugby title. 

The games were held at Kabgayi last Sunday.
The games were organised by NEC in collaboration with the Schools Sports Federation in the Ministry of Education.
