AS Kigali head coach Andre Casa Mbungo has said that the squad he has at his disposal can finally help the club win the league title this season.

The league leaders successfully leapfrogged Rayon Sports at the top of the table after beating Gorilla 1-0 on December 16, thanks to Felix Kone Lottin’s injury time winner and a win over Sunrise on Wednesday would see them finish the first round of the league season at the top of the table.

Rayon failed to reclaim their top spot after losing 1-0 to arch rivals’ APR on December 17 with Yannick Bizimana’s lone goal of the derby making the difference at Kigali Stadium.

Prior to their clash against Sunrise, Mbungo told Times Sport that he has a team capable of winning the league title and warned rivals that his side is not ready to surrender the league summit.

"The team is doing well. We are leading the race and that is exactly where we want to be. Nonetheless, we must stay focused and try to win the remaining games, I am here to win and I want to win the league, that's my first priority,” he said.

"The team is capable of winning the league, this is our main focus this season, and we can raise our level,” he noted.

The former Rayon, Gasogi and Police tactician warned his players to avoid taking Sunrise lightly when the two sides face off at Nyagatare stadium at 3.00pm.

"Our ambition now is to finish the first round leading the table. Sunrise are a great team but we will be traveling to their stadium only targeting a victory to remain in contention for the title." He added

AS Kigali now lead the table with 30 points and have a two-point lead ahead of second-placed Rayon and three ahead of APR and Kiyovu who sit third and fourth on the table tied with 27 points.
