Karongi residents encouraged to cooperate with police

KARONGI – Residents of Karongi district have been urged to always cooperate with the police in maintaining security.The call was made by Sabastien Hakizimana, the district vice Mayor in charge of Economic Affairs ahead of the 10th anniversary of the national Police.

KARONGI – Residents of Karongi district have been urged to always cooperate with the police in maintaining security.

The call was made by Sabastien Hakizimana, the district vice Mayor in charge of Economic Affairs ahead of the 10th anniversary of the national Police.

"Prevention of crime and ensuring security is not the responsibility of the police alone because you also have a hand in this,” he said.

Supt. Alex Rutabayiro, Karongi District Police commander told residents that activities to mark the anniversary included environmental protection, discussions in schools and medical services which are all ongoing.

"It’s very important to strengthen the fight against illicit drugs because they have been identified as a major source of crime in this region,” Rutabayiro said.

It has emerged that theft and violence, especially against women and young children are the major crimes in the district.
