GICUMBI –  Northern Province Governor, Aime Bosenibamwe, Friday urged Mayors to deliver required services to the people in their respective districts. 

Bosenibamwe was in Gicumbi District in a meeting that brought together all administrative executive organs from the districts of Musanze, Gakenke, Rulindo, Burera and Gicumbi.

The meeting aimed at evaluating various development programs in the Province, was also attended by advisors to the Ministers of Education, Gender and Family promotion. Representatives of Vision Umurenge Program (VUP), Community Service for Genocide convicts (TIG) and the World Food Program (WFP) were also present.

"You should strive to promptly provide service delivery to people in your respective districts because it is part of your obligations as leaders,” the Governor said. 

Citing the example of Gicumbi District’s failure to pay contractors on time, Bosenibamwe said the habit should stop immediately.

"Contractors are reported to be lobbying district officials to have their money paid, which is totally unacceptable,” he said.

He further called on district leaders to utilize all available land to increase agricultural production through land consolidation.

The advisor to the Minister of Education, Emille Rudasingwa, urged District mayors to avail land, building materials and manpower to increase the construction of school classes and toilets under the nine year basic education program. He said that the ministry shall avail iron sheets, cement and nails by July this year.

"You should mobilise stones, sand and manpower by July to receive the iron sheets, cement and nails from the ministry,” he said.

VUP Community mobilization officer, Yves Bizimana, called on the mayors to take advantage of VUP funds to eradicate poverty among local communities by engaging in terrace construction to increase agricultural production.

TIG deputy Executive Secretary, Anastase Nabahire, called on the mayors to use TIG manpower in their respective districts to carry out tasks beneficial to the entire community.

"TIG should be used to construct bridges and feeder roads in your respective districts because these are infrastructure needed by all residents,” he said.

Nabahire further reminded mayors of their role in ensuring TIG personnel don’t escape from work sites, by having regular meetings with TIG committees in sectors to establish the number of TIG personnel in their localities.
