KARONGI – Local leaders in Karongi district have called upon residents to work hand in hand with various security organs in order to ensure security.

While addressing residents during the ongoing Police week, Bernard Kayumbe, the district Mayor said, "each one of us should take personal security as a top priority and cooperating with concerned authorities is vital.”

He stressed that sharing information with security organs like the police and local authorities is a helpful way of curbing crime.

On his part Supt. Alex Rutabayiro, the District Police Commander, encouraged drivers to avoid drunk driving and challenged the local population to desist from drug abuse which has continuously been blamed for crime.

"As much as you go by the guidelines of promoting security in our region, you should support our programs which include community policing, environmental protection, medical activities and the campaign against gender based violence,” Rutabayiro said.
