The medals were presented to members of the Rwandan Battalion One (RWANBATT-1), who have been deployed across various operational sectors of the country. Their efforts have supported the protection of civilians, facilitated humanitarian assistance, and contributed to the stabilization of communities affected by conflict.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of MINUSCA, Valentine Rugwabiza, said the award of the UN Medal symbolizes the Organization’s appreciation for the sacrifice, resilience, and commitment demonstrated by the Rwandan peacekeepers throughout their deployment.

"Your contribution was especially significant during the electoral period and throughout the presidential campaign," Rugwabiza said.

"In a context requiring heightened security and constant readiness, RWANBATT-1 successfully supported protection operations across the country and helped create the conditions necessary for citizens to exercise their democratic rights peacefully."
