Rwanda Premier League pretenders AS Kigali will visit Gorilla FC on Friday, December 16, knowing that a victory will see them leapfrog league leaders Rayon Sports at the top of the table.

The City of Kigali-sponsored side sits second on the table with 27 points, a point behind Rayon Sports.

Andre Casa Mbungo’s men will be out to make no mistake as a victory over Gorilla would see them claim the top spot and wait for how Rayon fares ahead of Saturday’s derby with APR at Kigali Stadium.

"The players are prepared and ready for every challenge that Gorilla might pose. All we want is to get three points,” Mbungo said.

"We know we are going to face a team that is in good form...so we must challenge ourselves to do well. I have told the players to continue working hard if we are to remain in contention (for the title). This is a big match and important three points are at stake for us,” he added.

But Gorilla head coach Alphonse Gatera insists his men aren’t afraid of any threat that AS Kigali may pose and warned that they are ready to upset opposition.

"We are facing the good side and there is no doubt it is going to be a tough game. It is important that we win to stay on course to achieve our target. Getting three points would further boost our confidence going into the second half of the season,” Gatera said.

APR, who are currently third with 24 points, will face rivals Rayon Sports while fourth-placed SC Kiyovu will visit Rwamagama City on Saturday.

Elsewhere, struggling Marines FC will host Sunrise FC at Umuganda Stadium.
