Gisagara Volleyball Club head coach Laurence Yakan Guma has parted ways with the team due to personal reasons after guiding the team to a fourth-place finish in the 2025/26 season.

The development was confirmed to Times Sport by the club’s Secretary General, Edmond Gatera.

A former Rwanda national team player who later transitioned into coaching, Yakan joined the Southern Province-based side ahead of the 2025/26 season after spending time in Japan pursuing his studies.

"We are looking for a new coach to take over the team on a long-term basis, and we will announce him soon,” Gatera said.

Yakan returned to Rwanda in August 2025 and immediately took charge of Gisagara VC. Ahead of the season, he strengthened the squad with the recruitment of middle blocker Ronald Muvara, setter Sylvestre Ndayisaba, and Venuste Gatsinzi.

The trio played a significant role in helping the club enjoy an impressive campaign, as Gisagara finished top of the regular-season standings and secured a place in the playoffs.

Despite their strong performances during the regular season, Gisagara fell short in the playoffs, eventually finishing fourth after suffering a 3-0 defeat to Police VC in the semifinal series.

The club has yet to announce Yakan’s replacement. In the meantime, assistant coach Joseph Ndahiro is overseeing the team’s affairs as management continues its search for a new head coach.
