Members of the Lower Chamber of Parliament Monday unanimously elected MP Julienne Uwacu as the new chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Security and National Sovereignty.

Prior to her election as the committee’s head, Uwacu was a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Political Affairs.

"I will strive to promote legal advocacy, especially on issues regarding women’s rights,” Uwacu said, while campaigning for the seat before the House.

The candidate who stood unopposed, replaces Alfred Gasana, who took over the Political affairs committee as replacement for long serving Bernadette Kanzayire, who was appointed Deputy Ombudsman.
