The Rwanda Volleyball Federation (FRVB) will stage the inaugural Climate Action Volleyball Tournament scheduled to take place from May 29-30 at Gisagara Gymnasium, featuring top men’s and women’s league teams.
The tournament comes as a result of the partnership between the federation and the Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA), following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at promoting climate action through sport.
The participating teams were initially supposed to be those that qualified for the 2025/26 playoffs. However, due to different undisclosed reasons, Kepler men’s and women’s clubs, as well as APR Women’s Volleyball Club will not participate in the tournament.

The participating clubs include Gisagara VC, Rwanda Energy Group (REG) VC, and Police VC in the men’s category, while Police WVC, RRA WVC, and RP Huye WVC will compete in the women’s category.
The tournament will be played in a round-robin format.
"Though this tournament comes just a few days after the season came to a close, our focus is to keep our athletes busy and active in the game,” Jean Claude Byiringiro, the federation’s Executive Secretary, told Times Sport.
The tournament aligns with World Environment Day celebrations, marked every June 5, as Rwanda joins the global climate action movement under this year’s theme: "A Global Call for Climate Action.”
Games will be held at Gisagara Gymnasium and UR-Huye Gymnasium.
