ETINCELLES maintained pressure on reigning champions APR for the Primus league title after yesterday’s deserved victory over hosts Musanze.

Midfielder Tombelo Sobenga scored the lone goal of the game to secure maximum points for the Western Province side which is now on level points (36) with the military side although the latter still top the table on goal difference.

APR, who missed their weekend’s league tie due to engagements in the Orange Champions League now have three games in hand.

It was a productive weekend for APR as their other title challengers Atraco and Rayon Sport slipped up in the title race.

At Mumena stadium, Atraco were held to a 1-all draw by Jean Marie Ntagwabira’s SC Kiyovu while Police secured a point at Nyamirambo’s Regional stadium after holding Police to a 2-all draw.

Christian Uwumukiza and Peter Kagabo were on target for the Blues while Roger Tchouassi and Yusuf Kayihura netted for Police, who have struggled to find their feet since Jimmy Gatete’s move to Ethiopia’s St. George.

In the Atraco-SC Kiyovu tie, Daddy Birori put the taxi-men’s side ahead before Idebrand Niyonshuti netted the equaliser.

Atraco now have 34 points, two ahead of Rayon in fourth place. At the bottom of the table, Mukura failed to get themselves out of the relegation zone after losing 2-3 to Electrogaz at Huye grounds while Marines thrashed AS Kigali 3-2 at Umuganda stadium.

Mukura and Musanze are tied in the relegation zone with 13 and 11 points respectively.
