Rwanda is set to field a team at the Singapore Youth Olympic Games qualifiers set for March15 in Egypt.
The team, which starts training this week, is vying for that lone African slot at the inaugural Youth Olympic Games set for August 14-26.

A provisional squad of 18 players is expected to begin training this Friday under the tutelage of the APR women volleyball coach Paul Bitok and the Kenyan believes that the team has the mental strength and determination to take that solitary slot.

"Women volleyball has improved greatly for the past few months, with more than four teams competing for the league title, so I think these girls have the determination to succeed on both the continent and world stages,” he reckoned.

If the team qualifies, it will join four wild card entrants to the Games. The quartet includes Alphonsine Agahozo (swimming), Hakiza Matusi (boxing) and two athletes; Adeline Musabyeyezu and Yves Sikubwabo will who run in the 3000m category.

Agahozo, 13 secured her ticket after winning the KCB sponsored swimming competition in Huye last year while Matusi, 17, was picked after his outstanding display in last year’s East Africa Military Games which were staged in Kigali.
