Group 8 (Ivory Coast,
Benin, Rwanda, Burundi)

DESPITE drawing African giants Ivory Coast and tricky sides in Benin and Burundi, Ferwafa president Brig. Gen. Jean Bosco Kazura argues that Amavubi can still secure that prized 2012 Nations Cup slot.

"We have a good team and a very good coach in Sellas Tetteh so there is reason to believe that we can qualify,” said Kazura.

Of the 44 teams who will take part in the qualifying campaign which kicks off in September, only 14 will secure tickets to the competition which will be co-hosted by Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.

From the eleven groups, group winners as well as the best three runners up will qualify.

Rwanda’s only Nations Cup appearance came in 2004 when the tournament was hosted by Tunisia.

For the 2010 CAN qualification campaign, Rwanda finished bottom of their group, hence missing the plane to Angola.
Algeria topped the group, while Egypt and Zambia finished second and third respectively.
