RWANDA’S hopes of silverware in the ITF/CAT East African money circuit- Kampala leg rest on top seed Jean Claude Gasigwa.

The 26-year-old can secure a semi-final ticket with a win over Kenya’s Gilbert Kibet.  Their quarter-final tie was postponed to this morning following heavy downpour at Lugogo yesterday afternoon.

After going down in the first set 5-7, Gasigwa fought his way back into the game with a 6-2 second set victory.

Kigali leg winner Dieudonne Habiyambere however failed to reproduce his form after losing to Kenya’s Dennis Ochieng 4-6 1-6 while Olivier Nkunda lost out to Uganda’s tennis ace Duncan Mugabe in straight sets 3-6 5-7.

Habiyambere was quick to blame the defeat to abdominal pains.

"I was far from my best because I was struggling with abdominal pains.”

The winner of the men’s singles will pocket $800; the runner-up will walk away with $540 while losing semi-finalists will walk away with a consolation package of $200. The ladies’ winner will pocket $600.
