KAYONZA —  Society for Women Against AIDS in Africa (SWAA) and the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) have embarked on a condom promotion campaign targeting youth in Kayonza district.

During the promotion campaign on Wednesday, in Karambi village in Murundi sector, Gimu Shyikiro, SWAA field officer in Kayonza, said that the campaign was geared at protecting youths from contracting HIV.

"We should mobilise once again all youth at all levels and others with the objective of disseminating knowledge about the prevention of sexually transmitted infections, including HIV/AIDS, all over the country,” he said.

Robert Ntaganda, an ADRA official reiterated the importance of using condoms especially among the youth-who he said find it hard to abstain from sex.

"It is a choice between life and death. If you are curious about sex experiences use condoms. If you don’t, you will contract HIV and die,” he said.

Richard Gatungi, 17, a student at Karambi Secondary School, said he would disseminate the message to other youths who were not present.

"The youth have to change because most of them are ignorantly reckless. We have cases of young boys and girls, who have contracted the virus in such circumstances,” he said.
