APR head coach James Maye Jr has joined the coaching staff of RSSB Tigers BBC ahead of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) 2026 season in South Africa.

Maye Jr, who currently coaches APR BBC, will work alongside head coach Henry Mwinuka and assistant coach Kenny Gasana.

The Tigers replaced defending champions APR in the BAL after the club withdrew from the competition last week.

The RSSB-sponsored side will begin their campaign in the BAL Kalahari Conference, scheduled to take place at SunBet Arena in Pretoria from March 27 to April 5.

Mwinuka will remain head coach, assisted by Maye Jr and Rwandan basketball legend Gasana.

The club has already started preparations for the tournament and is reportedly looking to strengthen the squad with both local and foreign players as they aim to make a strong impression in their maiden BAL appearance.

The sixth season of the BAL will feature 12 clubs from 12 African countries, who will compete in a total of 42 games across two conferences—Kalahari and Sahara—before the playoffs.

The top eight teams from the conferences will qualify for the playoffs and finals, which are scheduled to take place at BK Arena in Kigali from May 22 to 31.

Maye Jr was on the touchline when APR secured third place at the 2025 BAL Finals, which were also held in South Africa.
