Recent editions of the Gen Z Comedy Show have seen funnyman and host Fally Merci invite top comedians from across the region as part of efforts to grow the brand.
However, the first edition of March, scheduled for Thursday, March 12, at the Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village, will feature only comedians who are building their careers through the platform.
Some of the headliners on the performance lineup include Dudu, Umushumba, Clement Inkirigito and Isacal, among other up-and-coming faces in the comedy industry.
"It is their platform and they deserve it. This show is dedicated to supporting young comedians to showcase their talent, and we always try to make it relevant to its mission,” the organiser said.
This special edition promises an evening of laughter and music, with Merci also expected to welcome gospel music couple Ben and Chance, who will perform at the show just weeks before staging their much-anticipated concert at BK Arena on April 4.
Entrance tickets for the comedy show are priced at Rwf5,000 for regular seats, Rwf10,000 for VIP, and Rwf20,000 for VVIP.
Since its inception in 2022, the Gen Z Comedy Show has become one of the country’s popular comedy concepts. Its stage has played a significant role in nurturing local comedians aspiring to become some of the best in the industry.
Held twice every month, the show has also started expanding to schools as part of efforts not only to unearth new talent but also to grow the comedy community among the younger generation.
Merci’s idea to launch a comedy show primarily dedicated to giving a platform to emerging talent was inspired by a creative project he presented during Art Rwanda-Ubuhanzi in 2018.
The show currently attracts approximately 2,000 spectators per edition.
