Cost of new driving permits too high

Editor, I wish to register my disapproval of the cost of the new driving permit. Paying 50,000 Rwandan francs for a new driving permit is extremely exorbitant; and to make matters worse, they shall have to be renewed every five years. That means if you drive for 15 years continuously, you’ll have paid 150,000 francs for just the right to own a driving permit.

Editor,

I wish to register my disapproval of the cost of the new driving permit.

Paying 50,000 Rwandan francs for a new driving permit is extremely exorbitant; and to make matters worse, they shall have to be renewed every five years.

That means if you drive for 15 years continuously, you’ll have paid 150,000 francs for just the right to own a driving permit.

Surely, whoever thought about this new procedure doesn’t seem to want Rwandans to drive. I fully support Senator Speciose Ayinkamiye and Prosper Higiro’s comments on high costs of the driving permits.

The price difference between the former permit, which cost 20,000 francs, the current permit fee (50,000 francs) is too big.

Another issue I would like to mention is the issuing of deadlines by the police for issuing out the driving permits.

I thought people would be free to obtain driving permits anytime they needed them.
