Rwanda National Police (RNP) has received a modern firefighting truck from Rusumo Power Company, enhancing its emergency response capacity.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Operations, CP Vincent Sano, received the truck on Friday, February 13, at the RNP General Headquarters in Kacyiru. The MAN Model TGS 33.440 truck is equipped with specialized instruments for disaster and fire management.
Rusumo Power Company, a regional power company supplying electricity to Rwanda, Tanzania, and Burundi, donated the firefighting vehicle as part of its corporate social responsibility initiatives, particularly in communities surrounding the Regional Rusumo Falls Hydroelectric Project.
While receiving the donation, Sano said the new truck will significantly boost timely national emergency responses.
"This donation is not only a material asset; it is a powerful expression of trust, solidarity, and shared responsibility... It will play a direct and meaningful role in safeguarding lives, protecting property, and reinforcing public safety and security,” Sano said.
He noted that the new fire engine will significantly enhance the Police’s capacity to respond swiftly and effectively to fire outbreaks and other emergencies.
"It will serve not only as an operational tool but also as a symbol of partnership between public institutions and private entities working together for the common good as we contribute to Rwanda’s broader development and security agenda,” he added.
While handing over the truck, Rusumo Power Company Managing Director Eric Mpayimana expressed appreciation for the partnership with the Rwanda National Police.
"The handing over of a firefighting truck to the Rwanda National Police is part of our corporate social responsibility in favour of the localities surrounding the Rusumo Dam,” Mpayimana said.
He said the company was committed to contributing to socio-economic well-being in the region, particularly in fire and disaster management.
Mpayimana also emphasized support for communities around the Rusumo Dam and in Rwanda’s Eastern Province, notably Kirehe and Ngoma districts.
