Congo Brazzaville head coach Yoanes Tatby has confirmed his resignation despite guiding his side to a 30–28 victory over hosts Rwanda in the 11th-place playoff at the 2026 Men’s Handball Africa Cup of Nations on Friday at BK Arena.

The closely contested encounter saw both teams locked at 16–16 at halftime, with neither side able to establish clear dominance in the opening 30 minutes.

Rwanda enjoyed a brief spell of control early in the second half, leading for about 10 minutes, but the momentum soon shifted in favour of Congo Brazzaville.

Inspired by a standout performance from Christopher Zoko-Ezo, who scored 12 goals, Congo regained control and held on to secure the victory, finishing the tournament in 11th place.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, he confirmed his resignation.

"This is a personal matter and has nothing to do with our performance in the tournament,” Tatby said.
