Evangelical church gets bishop

Father Denis Mugabo was yesterday consecrated as the bishop of the Evangelical Orthodox church of Rwanda.  Mugabo who has been the in-charge of St. John Evangelical Orthodox church of Rwanda, Nyabugogo becomes the denomination’s first bishop in Rwanda.

Father Denis Mugabo was yesterday consecrated as the bishop of the Evangelical Orthodox church of Rwanda. 
Mugabo who has been the in-charge of St. John Evangelical Orthodox church of Rwanda, Nyabugogo becomes the denomination’s first bishop in Rwanda.

Bishops Jerold Gliege and Thomas Andersson of Evangelical Orthodox church of Canada officiated at the consecration of the new bishop.

Bishop Mugabo called on the church members to promote unity, love and peace in both the church and the country.

"We need to empower our people economically. We will continue to promote education, health and provide comfort to our people who lost their relatives in the genocide,” Mugabo said.

Speaking to The New Times, Bishop Jerold Gliege said that the church so far has a tailoring school in Burema and hopes to construct more schools in Rwanda.

At the ceremony that was held at SOS village, Kacyiru, one priest and seven deacons were ordained.

The newly consecrated ministers were urged to devote themselves to pastoral work and be the role models to their congregation.

The Evangelical Orthodox Church of Rwanda was founded in 2008 the same year Fr. Dennis Mugabo was ordained a  priest.
