Al Hilal SC climbed to the top of the Rwanda Premier League table after a dominant 4-0 victory over Rayon Sports at Amahoro Stadium on Saturday.
Laurențiu Reghecampf’s side looked favourites from the opening whistle and lived up to expectations, securing their eighth consecutive league win in emphatic fashion.
Rayon Sports began the match with purpose, but the absence of suspended midfielder Asman Ndikumana proved costly for head coach Bruno Ferry, as his side struggled to create meaningful attacking opportunities. Al Hilal gradually took control, dominating proceedings in midfield.
The breakthrough came early in the 10th minute, when El Hadji Kane opened the scoring to give the hosts a deserved lead. Al Hilal maintained their dominance and went into the halftime break 1-0 ahead.
The Sudanese giants returned for the second half with renewed intensity. Burundian winger Jean Claude Girumugisha doubled the lead in the 54th minute, before Yahoud Ömer Taha added a third just five minutes later to put the result beyond doubt.
Girumugisha capped off a fine individual performance by grabbing his second goal of the night with a powerful strike in stoppage time (90 5), sealing a comprehensive 4-0 win.
Rayon Sports attempted to respond through youngsters Paul Jesus Sindi and new signing Joachim Bienvenue Vigninou, but their efforts failed to trouble the Al Hilal defence.
The victory moves Al Hilal SC to the summit of the league standings with 35 points from 15 matches, leapfrogging Police FC, who drop to second with 34 points.
Rayon Sports sit 10th on the table with 24 points, though they still have two games in hand against Mukura VS and Al Merrikh.
