L-R: Justine Kigwaria and Edwige Kossenda Konwa.

With less than two days remaining before the extended transfer window closes on January 15, Kepler Women’s Volleyball Club (WVC) has secured Cameroonian outside hitter Edwige Kossenda Konwa on a short-term contract, while APR WVC is reported to be in talks with Kenyan tactician Justine Kigwaria.

After the conclusion of the first phase of the 2025/26 Rwanda Volleyball League, clubs had remained largely quiet in the transfer market, showing little urgency to strengthen their squads. However, activity has picked up in the women’s category, with a few clubs opening their doors to new faces ahead of the decisive second phase.

Kepler WVC, who finished the first phase in third-place, return for the second phase without their key outside hitter Daisy Chepleting, creating a gap in their attacking line.

In response, the club management moved to recruit Kossenda, a 28-year-old Cameroonian international, on a contract set to run until the end of the league season, which is expected to conclude in April, according to the federation’s calendar.

Kossenda joins Kepler from her home club Nyong-et-Kéllé Volleyball Club, and is expected to make her debut when Kepler WVC face East African University Rwanda (EAUR) on Saturday.

Meanwhile, APR WVC, who recently parted ways with head coach Peter Kamasa, are reported to be in advanced talks with Justine Kigwaria. The Kenyan coach is currently in Rwanda with the club.

Kigwaria has previously coached Kwanthanze Secondary School, one of Kenya’s most successful women’s volleyball teams, with multiple national championships to their name. He has also been associated with Team Kenya, particularly in youth development, including involvement in preparations for the Dakar Youth Olympic Games.
